Do you give free quotes?

Yes. We come and look at the job, then give you a free written quote that sets out the scope, the products we will use, the price and the expected timeframe.

How much does it cost to paint a house?

It depends on the job, so we price each one after seeing it. The main things that affect the price are the size and height of the house, how much preparation the surfaces need, whether you are changing colour, how many coats are needed, access and scaffolding, and the products used. Your written quote shows exactly what is included.

Why does preparation matter so much?

Paint only lasts as long as the surface underneath it. If dirt, salt, mould or loose paint is left on, the new coat will peel or blister early. Washing, scraping, sanding, filling and priming take most of the time on a job, and they are what make the finish last.

When is the best time to paint the outside of a house?

Exterior paint needs dry weather and surface temperatures within the paint maker's limits to cure properly, so most exterior work is done in the warmer, drier months. We plan around the forecast and will not paint when rain or cold would spoil the finish. Interior painting can be done any time of year.

How long will my job take?

It depends on the size of the job, the amount of preparation and the weather for exterior work. Your quote includes an expected timeframe, and we keep you updated if the weather changes the plan.

Do I need to move out or be home while you paint?

No. For exterior work you can carry on as normal; we just need access around the house. For interior work we usually go room by room so the rest of the house stays liveable. We agree access and start times with you before we begin.

What paint do you use?

We use quality paint systems suited to the surface, whether that is timber, plaster, fibre-cement or iron. The exact products are named in your written quote.

Can you help with colours?

Yes. Bring your colour ideas to the site visit and we can talk through options, finishes and how colours will look on your house.

What about older homes that might have lead paint?

Houses painted before the 1980s can have lead-based paint in the older layers. Dry sanding it creates harmful dust, so it needs to be identified and prepared with safer methods. If your home is older, we will talk about this when we quote.

Do you paint roofs?

Yes, we paint corrugated and long-run iron roofs, including cleaning, rust treatment and priming. See roof painting.

Do you work with builders and property managers?

Yes. We paint new builds and extensions to the builder's programme, and do rental and pre-sale repaints for owners and property managers. See new builds and repaints.

What areas do you cover?

Nelson, Richmond, Motueka and the wider Tasman district, and the Wellington region including Wellington city, Lower Hutt, Upper Hutt, Porirua and the Kāpiti Coast. See areas we cover.
